Road traffic accidents claimed 26 lives in June

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 620 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in June. In them, 26 persons were killed and 785 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 4 higher and that of persons injured 80 lower than in June 2008.

Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car, 4 by motorcycle, 1 by bus or coach and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 3. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 16 were men and 10 were women.

A total of 2 738 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to June period. In them, 131 persons were killed and 3 529 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 8 lower and that of persons injured 243 lower than in the corresponding period of 2008. Of the persons who were killed, 83 travelled by passenger car, 13 by motorcycle, 5 by lorry, 5 by van, 1 by bus or coach and 3 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 13 and cyclists 4. In addition, 4 other road users were killed.
