Road traffic accidents claimed 25 lives in October

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 561 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October. In them, 25 persons were killed and 680 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 20 lower and that of persons injured 92 lower than in October 2008.

Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car, 2 by motorcycle and 2 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 4 and cyclists 1. Among those who died, 22 were men and 3 were women.

A total of 5 515 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to October period. In them, 247 persons were killed and 6 907 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 39 lower and that of persons injured 276 lower than in the corresponding period of 2008. Of the person who were killed, 148 travelled by passenger car, 8 by van, 5 by lorry, 1 by bus or coach, 27 by motorcycle and 9 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 22 and cyclists 18. In addition, 9 other road users were killed.
