Road traffic accidents claimed 21 lives in February
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 367 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in February. In them, 21 persons were killed and 501 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 6 higher and that of persons injured 92 higher than in February 2009.
Of the persons who were killed, 11 travelled by passenger car, 4 by van and 1 by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 3. In addition, 2 other road users were killed. Among those who died, 14 were men and 7 were women.
A total of 672 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to February period. In them, 31 persons were killed and 902 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 7 lower and that of persons injured 68 lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. Of the person who were killed, 18 travelled by passenger car, 4 by van, 1 by lorry and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 4. In addition, 3 other road users were killed.
