Road traffic accidents claimed 23 lives in September

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 564 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in September. In them, 23 persons were killed and 707 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 8 lower and that of persons injured 134 lower than in September 2009.

Of the persons who were killed, 14 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 1 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 4 and cyclists 1. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 16 were men and 7 were women.

A total of 4,593 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to September period. In them, 207 persons were killed and 5,791 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 15 lower and that of persons injured 430 lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. Of the person who were killed, 126 travelled by passenger car, 6 by van, 3 by lorry, 14 by motorcycle and 6 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 24 and cyclists 19. In addition, 9 other road users were killed.
