Road traffic accidents claimed 22 lives in September
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 604 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in September. In them, 22 persons were killed and 715 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 1 lower and that of persons injured 8 higher than in September 2010.

Of the persons who were killed, 10 travelled by passenger car, 2 by van and 4 by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 4 and cyclists 1. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 19 were men and 3 were women.
A total of 4,805 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to September period. In them, 215 persons were killed and 6,001 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 8 higher and that of persons injured 210 higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. Of the person who were killed, 131 travelled by passenger car, 4 by lorry, 8 by van, 1 by bus or coach, 28 by motorcycle and 8 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 21 and cyclists 9. In addition, 5 other road users were killed.
