Road traffic accidents claimed 23 lives in May
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 502 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 23 persons were killed and 592 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 4 lower and that of persons injured 131 lower than in May 2011.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car, 4 by van, 3 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 19 were men and 4 were women.
A total of 1,894 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to May period. In them, 103 persons were killed and 2,359 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 13 higher and that of persons injured 250 lower than in the corresponding period of 2011. Of the persons who were killed, 69 travelled by passenger car, 6 by van, 2 by lorry, 1 by bus or coach, 4 by motorcycle and 2 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 10 and cyclists 4. In addition, 5 other road users were killed.
