Road traffic accidents claimed 24 lives in June
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 544 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in June. In them, 24 persons were killed and 638 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 13 lower and that of persons injured 274 lower than in June 2011.

Of the persons who were killed, 15 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 2 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2 and cyclists 1. In addition, 2 other road users were killed. Among those who died, 14 were men and 10 were women.
A total of 2,447 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to June period. In them, 128 persons were killed and 3,005 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 1 lower and that of persons injured 521 lower than in the corresponding period of 2011. Of the person who were killed, 86 travelled by passenger car, 7 by van, 2 by lorry, 1 by bus or coach, 6 by motorcycle and 3 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 5. In addition, 6 other road users were killed.
