Road traffic accidents claimed 29 lives in May
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 520 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 29 persons were killed and 628 persons injured. The number of persons killed was six higher and that of persons injured 36 higher than in May 2012.

Of the persons who were killed, 14 travelled by passenger car, two by van, one by lorry, four by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists five. Among those who died, 23 were men and six were women.
A total of 1,647 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to May period. In them, 94 persons were killed and 2,094 persons injured. The number of persons killed was nine lower and that of persons injured 265 lower than in the corresponding period of 2012. Of the person who were killed, 56 travelled by passenger car, four by van, two by lorry, seven by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered nine and cyclists eight. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
