Road traffic accidents claimed 25 lives in December

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 479 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December. In them, 25 persons were killed and 633 persons injured. The number of persons killed was seven higher and that of persons injured 76 higher than in December 2013.

Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car and one by van. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered seven. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 14 were men and 11 were women.

A total of 5,286 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to December period. In them, 223 persons were killed and 6,669 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 35 lower and that of persons injured one lower than in the corresponding period of 2013. Of the persons who were killed, 124 travelled by passenger car, 11 by van, three by lorry, 16 by motorcycle and two by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 34 and cyclists 23. In addition, ten other road users were killed.
