Road traffic accidents claimed 26 lives in May
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 404 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 26 persons were killed and 487 persons injured. The number of persons killed was eight higher and that of persons injured 98 lower than in May 2016.

Of the persons who were killed, 20 travelled by passenger car, one by motorcycle and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three and cyclists one. Among those who died, 20 were men and six were women.
A total of 1,571 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to May period. In them, 91 persons were killed and 2,000 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 10 higher and that of persons injured 35 lower than in the corresponding period of 2016. Of the persons who were killed, 56 travelled by passenger car, five by van, one by moped, one by motorcycle and four by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 13 and cyclists four. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
