Road traffic accidents claimed 15 lives in August

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 449 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 15 persons were killed and 549 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 14 lower and that of persons injured 71 lower than in August 2016.

Of the persons who were killed, five travelled by passenger car, two by van, two by motorcycle, one by lorry and two by bus. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three. Among those who died, 14 were men and one was a woman.

A total of 2,877 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to August period. In them, 146 persons were killed and 3,616 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 23 lower and that of persons injured 227 lower than in the corresponding period of 2016. Of the persons who were killed, 84 travelled by passenger car, eight by van, two by moped, nine by motorcycle, five by lorry and two by bus. Pedestrians killed numbered 18 and cyclists nine. In addition, nine other road users were killed.
