Road traffic accidents claimed 18 lives in May
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 339 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 18 persons were killed and 407 persons injured. The number of persons killed was one lower and that of persons injured 134 lower than in May 2018. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, nine travelled by passenger car, two by motorcycle and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered one and cyclists five. Among those who died, 14 were men and four were women.
A total of 1,368 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to May period. In them, 75 persons were killed and 1,746 persons injured. The number of persons killed was one lower and that of persons injured 139 lower than in the corresponding period of 2018. Of the persons who were killed, 51 travelled by passenger car, three by van, one by moped, five by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered four and cyclists six. In addition, two other road users were killed.
