Road traffic accidents claimed 16 lives in April
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 186 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in April. In them, 16 persons were killed and 225 persons injured. The number of persons killed was four higher and that of persons injured nine lower than in April 2020. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, nine travelled by passenger car, by van, by moped, by motorcycle, one by lorry and by bus. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three and cyclists two. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 11 were men and five were women.
A total of 675 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to April period. In them, 50 persons were killed and 825 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 17 lower and that of persons injured 371 lower than in the corresponding period of 2020. Of the persons who were killed, 32 travelled by passenger car, five by van and two by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered six and cyclists three. In addition, two other road users were killed.
