Road traffic accidents claimed 15 lives in September

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 331 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in September. In them, 15 persons were killed and 393 persons injured. The number of persons killed was one higher and that of persons injured 10 lower than in September 2020. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, 10 travelled by passenger car, two by motorcycle and one by lorry. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered two. Among those who died, 11 were men and four were women.

A total of 2,400 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to September period. In them, 154 persons were killed and 2,880 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 12 lower and that of persons injured 461 lower than in the corresponding period of 2020. Of the persons who were killed, 86 travelled by passenger car, eight by van, two by moped, 23 by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 14 and cyclists 13. In addition, five other road users were killed.
