Employment grew and unemployment fell in May 2005

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons was in May 2,416,000, i.e. 39,000 higher than one year previously. The employment rate stood at 68.5 per cent, while it was 67.7 per cent in May 2004. In the January to May period of 2005 the average number of employed persons was 2,353,000, which is 38,000 higher than in the corresponding period of the year before.

There were 274,000 unemployed in May, which is 39,000 fewer than in the previous year. The rate of unemployment was 10.2 per cent, while it was 11,6 per cent one year before.
