Unemployment fell in August 2005

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of unemployed persons was in August 188,000, i.e. 21,000 lower than one year previously. The rate of unemployment was 7.2 per cent, while it was 8.0 per cent one year before.

There were 2,437,000 employed in August 2005, i.e. 20,000 higher than one year before. The employment rate stood at 69.0 per cent, while it was 68.8 per cent in August 2004. In the January to August period of 2005 the average number of employed persons was 2,402,000, which is 32,000 higher than in the corresponding period of the year before.
