Employment grew and unemployment fell in January 2006

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of empoyed persons was 2,353,000 employed in January, i.e. 54,000 higher than one year before. The employment rate stood at 66.6 per cent, while it was 65.3 per cent in January 2005.

There number of unemployed persons was 226,000 in January, which is 23,000 fewer than one year before. The rate of unemployment was 8.7 per cent, while it was 9.8 per cent one year earlier.
