Employment grew and unemployment fell in December 2006

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons in December was 2,458,000, or 59,000 higher than a year earlier. The employment rate stood at 69.1 per cent, while it was 67.8 per cent in December 2005.

The number of unemployed persons was 168,000 in December, which is 31,000 fewer than in the year before. The unemployment rate was 6.4 per cent, while it was 7.6 per cent one year earlier.

In 2006 the average number of employed persons was 2,443,000, which is 43,000 more than one year before. The unemployment rate was 7.7 per cent , against 8.4 per cent in 2005.
