Finland's preliminary population figure 5 474 210 at the end of April
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population at the end of April was 5,474,210. Over the January to April period, Finland's population increased by 2,460 persons, which is 2,840 persons fewer than for the corresponding period of the year before. The reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad: the number of immigrants was 2,760 higher than that of emigrants. There was no natural population growth, since deaths exceeded births by 300 persons.
Population increase by month 2012–2015*
According to the preliminary statistics for the January to April period, 7,010 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 4,250 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 1,690 lower and the number of emigrants 120 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 1,790 of the immigrants and 2,970 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
During the January to April period, 18,000 children were born, which is 630 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014. The number of deaths was 18,300, which is 640 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 71,390 over the January to April period. Compared with the previous January to April period, the increase was 1,760 migrations according to the municipal division of 2015.
