Finland's preliminary population figure 5,508,714 at the end of July
New releases will not be produced on preliminary population statistics any more in 2017. Revised figures concerning 2017 will be released at a later date to be announced separately.
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,508,714 at the end of July. Our country's population increased by 5,417 persons during January-July. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 7,423. The number of births was 2,006 lower than that of deaths.
Population increase by month 2014–2017*
During January-July, 29,558 children were born, which is 1,691 fewer than in the corresponding period in 2016. The number of deaths was 31,564, which is 38 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for July, 15,031 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 7,608 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 2 173 lower and the number of emigrants 1,463 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 4,652 of the immigrants and 4,991 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 155,064 during January-July. Compared with the corresponding period in 2016, the increase was 6,141 migrations according to the municipal division of 2017.
