Finland's preliminary population figure 5,543,659 at the end of July
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,543,659 at the end of July. Our country's population increased by 9,866 persons during January-July. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 12,348. The number of births was 3,183 lower than that of deaths.
Population increase by month 2018–2021*
During January-July, 28,918 children were born, which is 1,803 higher than in the corresponding period in 2020. The number of deaths was 32,101, which is 170 lower than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for January-July, 17,991 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 5,643 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 701 higher and the number of emigrants 2,116 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 4,981 of the immigrants and 3,545 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 161,003 during January-July. Compared with the corresponding period in 2020, the increase was 4,839 migrations according to the municipal division of 2021.
