Gross domestic product decreased by 8.2 per cent in 2009

According to Statistics Finland’s revised preliminary data, Finland's gross domestic product contracted by 8.2 per cent in 2009. According to the previously released preliminary data, the decrease was 8.0 per cent. Gross domestic product decreased from what was previously estimated, because Statistics Finland has obtained new data on the finances of municipalities and on the performances of education, social and health services produced by local and central government.

Gross domestic product, or the value added created in the production of goods and services, amounted to EUR 171 billion.

Despite the economic downturn, households’ disposable income grew again, in real terms by 2.2 per cent. Households' adjusted disposable income, which also includes public services and those produced by non-profit institutions for the benefit of households, grew in real terms by 2.0 per cent.
