Read more about the changeAccording to Statistics Finland, the total number of pupils and students in education leading to a qualification or degree was 1,398,000 in 2022. The number of pupils in pre-primary education decreased by three per cent from the year before. The number of students remained unchanged in comprehensive, general upper secondary and vocational education. The number of students grew by five per cent in university of applied sciences education and by three per cent in university education.

- In 2022, there were 316,000 new students and altogether 1,398,000 students in education leading to a qualification or degree, and 220,300 qualifications or degrees were completed.
- Fifty-two per cent of students and 56 per cent of attainers of qualifications or degrees were women. Men studied most in the field of technology and women in the field of health and welfare.
- Altogether 96,700 students had a nationality other than Finnish. There were 173 different nationalities among those studying in Finland.
- Foreign-language speaking students numbered 150,900 and they spoke 146 different native languages.
- Twelve per cent of students were of foreign background.
