Number of immigrations nearly 50,000 in 2022

According to Statistics Finland, the number of immigrants into Finland was record high, 49,998 in 2022, having been 29,000 to 36,000 in the previous years. Migration to Finland grew particularly from Russia, the Philippines and Turkey. Ukrainians staying in Finland under the Temporary Protection Directive are not visible in immigrants in 2022.

  • Net immigration was 34,363 moves positive in 2022.
  • Most people moved to Finland from Russia, Sweden, India, Estonia and the Philippines.
  • Pirkanmaa, Uusimaa and Southwest Finland received most migration gain from elsewhere in Finland.
  • The number of municipalities with migration gain fell clearly from the previous year.
  • Most migration gain from internal migration to Tampere and Espoo, biggest losses to Helsinki and Vantaa.
