Road traffic accidents claimed 16 lives in August 2024
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 307 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August 2024. In them, 16 persons were killed and 367 persons injured. The number of fatalities was one higher and number of persons injured 18 lower than in August 2023. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Road traffic accidents in January to August
A total of 1,758 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period of 2024 according to preliminary data. In them, 110 persons were killed and 2,148 persons injured. The number of deaths was the same and number of persons injured 174 lower than in the corresponding period of 2023. Of the persons who were killed, 52 travelled by passenger car, five by van, three by moped, 13 by motorcycle and two by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 12. In addition, 11 other road users were killed.
