Cubic volume of granted building permits decreased by 8 per cent year-on-year in July to September 2024
According to Statistics Finland, building permits for newbuilding were granted for a total of 5.1 million cubic metres between July and September 2024, which was eight per cent less than one year earlier. Over the period, building projects totalling 5.1 million cubic metres were also completed, which was 44 per cent down from one year earlier.

Cubic volume covered by granted building permits was bigger than one year ago in seven regions
Measured by cubic volume, most building permits for newbuilding were granted in Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa in July to September 2024. The cubic volume granted in July to September exceeded in seven regions the number of permits granted one year ago.
In July to September 2024, most building projects in terms of volume were completed in Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa. The cubic volume of completed building projects grew in two regions from one year ago.
On the level of the whole country, 4,662 new dwellings were completed in building projects in July to September, which was 50 per cent fewer than in the corresponding period one year earlier. Among the regions, the highest numbers of dwellings were completed in Uusimaa, 1,918. Compared to the previous year, the number of completed new dwellings fell in all regions.
