Changes were made to the database tables of the Finnish road statistics and the data for the two latest statistical reference years, 2022 and 2023, were published in the tables.
Read more about the changeAccording to Statistics Finland, the total number of kilometres driven in road traffic in Finland was 47.8 billion car kilometres in 2023, which was nearly the same as in 2022. The traffic performance of lorries decreased by six per cent. The volume of road traffic grew by 0.4 per cent on highways but decreased by 0.7 per cent on streets and private roads.

- In 2023, a total of 36.3 billion kilometres were driven on Finnish highways. A total of 11.4 billion kilometres were driven on streets and private roads.
- In 2023, altogether 38.6 billion kilometres were driven with passenger cars, which is 0.5 per cent more than in 2022.
- The traffic performance of lorries decreased by six per cent but that of buses and coaches grew by seven per cent from the year before.
- At the end of 2023, the length of highways in Finland totalled 77,804 km, which is 44 km less than one year earlier.
