Accrual of taxes and compulsory social security contributions grew by 0.8 per cent in 2023

According to Statistics Finland’s revised data, the accrual of taxes and compulsory social security contributions grew by 0.8 per cent in 2023 and totalled EUR 116.5 billion. The tax ratio was 42.6 per cent in 2023. Compared to 2022, the tax ratio decreased by 0.8 percentage points. The tax ratio describes the ratio of taxes and compulsory social security contributions to gross domestic product.

  • The accrual of all income and capital taxes decreased by 0.2 per cent and totalled EUR 42.6 billion. 
  • The accrual of compulsory social security contributions increased by 5.6 per cent and totalled EUR 33.8 billion. 
  • The accrual of taxes paid on goods and services went down by 1.8 per cent and was EUR 36.1 billion. 
  • Compared to the March preliminary round, the accrual of all taxes paid in 2023 grew by EUR 111 million and the tax ratio increased by 0.7 percentage points.

    updatedas a result of the benchmark revision of national accounts.
