A total of 1.7 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in August 2024

According to Statistics Finland, altogether 1.7 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in August 2024. The total number of passengers increased by 10 per cent compared to August 2023. The number of passengers on both domestic and international flights increased from the previous year.

Nine per cent more passengers flew through Finnish airports during the summer than last year

In August 2024, a total of 1.5 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 170,000 passengers flew through other domestic airports. Compared to August 2023, the total number of passengers at both Helsinki Airport and other domestic airports were 10 per cent higher.

Eighty-six per cent of the air traffic passengers travelled on international flights and 14 per cent on domestic flights in August 2024. The share of passengers on international flights was 92 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 34 per cent in total at other domestic airports. Of all passengers, 96 per cent travelled on scheduled flights.

In August 2024, air freight and mail transport totalled 15,310 tonnes. In all, one hundred per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 6,908 tonnes (45 %) of the transported volume of goods were incoming and 8,402 tonnes (55 %) were outgoing.

During January to August in 2024, a total of 13 million passengers flew through Finnish airports, which was 5 per cent more than in the same period in 2023. In 2024, 5 million passengers flew through Finnish airports during June to August, which was 9 per cent more than in the summer of 2023.
