Number of reported assaults decreased by 2.6 per cent and robberies by 5.1 per cent according to preliminary data for 2024

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 501,800 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in 2024. This is 1.8 per cent lower than one year earlier. In all, 2,600 robberies and 40,200 assaults were reported.

Key selections

  • A total of 90 offences against life were reported in 2024, which is 33 more than in 2023.
  • The legislation on sexual offences was amended on 1 January 2023.
  • Altogether 1,400 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported, which is 250 more than in the year before. Of the acts, nearly 400 were committed on the Internet.
  • Good 1,200 reports were made about dissemination or possession of a sexually offensive image of a child or following a sexually offensive performance of a child. Over 90 per cent of the acts were committed on the Internet.
