Value of energy imports decreased by 8 per cent in January to September 2024

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, energy products were imported to Finland to the value of EUR 7.9 billion in January to September 2024, which was eight per cent less than one year earlier. The value of exports of energy products amounted to EUR 3.5 billion, which was 29 per cent less than in the previous year.

  • The main energy import products based on value were crude oil, medium distillates and other petroleum products.
  • The main energy export products based on value were motor gasoline, medium distillates and other petroleum products.
  • In January to September, the import volume of natural gas fell by 94 per cent and the export volume grew by 32 per cent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
  • Imports of electricity in January to September 2024 amounted to 6.9 TWh, which was six per cent more than in the year before. Electricity exports totalled 3.2 TWh, which was 46 per cent less than in the year before.
  • In January to September 2024, the main import countries for energy products examined by value were Norway, Sweden and the USA. The main export countries were Sweden, the USA and the Netherlands.
