Altogether 19.8 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in 2024
According to Statistics Finland, altogether 19.8 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in 2024. The total number of passengers grew by seven per cent from 2023. The number of passengers on domestic flights increased by four per cent and on international flights by eight per cent. The number of passengers was one quarter lower than before the coronavirus pandemic in 2019.

Growth in the number of air traffic passengers continued in 2024
Altogether 19.8 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in 2024. In all, 16.4 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and around 3.3 million passengers through other domestic airports. Ninety-five per cent of all passengers were on scheduled flights and five per cent on chartered flights.
Altogether 81 per cent of air traffic passengers, or around 16 million, travelled on international flights in 2024. Nineteen per cent, or around 3.8 million passengers, travelled on domestic flights. The share of passengers on international flights was 89 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 44 per cent in total at other domestic airports.
The number of air traffic passengers increased by seven per cent from 2023. The number of passengers at Helsinki Airport was six per cent higher and the combined number of passengers at other domestic airports nine per cent higher than in 2023. Compared to 2019, the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport was 25 per cent lower and at other domestic airports combined 22 per cent lower in 2024. The year 2019 is used in the statistics as the comparison year to describe the number of air passengers before the pandemic.
The volume of freight and mail transport by air grew by five per cent compared to 2023. Air freight and mail transport totalled 184,303 tonnes in 2024. In all, 99 per cent of air freight was transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 98,268 tonnes (53 %) of the transported freight were outgoing and 86,035 tonnes (47 %) were incoming.
