Birth rate fell to the lowest level in statistical history in 2024

According to Statistics Finland, the total fertility rate for 2024 was 1.25, which is the lowest birth rate since statistics compilation started in the year 1776. A total of 43,720 children were born in 2024. The total fertility rate was lowest in Kymenlaakso (1.06), North Karelia (1.11) and South Karelia (1.14). The birth rate was highest in Central Ostrobothnia (1.72), Ostrobothnia (1.48) and North Ostrobothnia (1.47).
