Key selections
- According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland and Finnish Energy, total electricity consumption rose by three per cent in 2024 and amounted to 82.7 TWh.
- Fossil-free electricity, that is, nuclear, wind, hydro and solar power and renewable fuels covered 95 per cent of electricity production in 2024.
- Electricity demand was largely covered by hydro, wind, solar and nuclear power (80 %). Electricity produced by incineration decreased by 13 per cent from the previous year.
- For the first time, the production of wind power exceeded that of hydro power. The production of wind power grew (37 %) and amounted to 19.9 TWh in 2024. As in the previous year, the majority (39 %) of electricity production was based on nuclear power.
- Solar power production grew most in relative terms, by 61 per cent, and amounted to 1.2 TWh (1.5 per cent of electricity production).
