EUR 1.8 billion were used for renovating service buildings

According to Statistics Finland, EUR 1.8 billion were spent on renovating service buildings in 2019. EUR 1.0 billion were spent on renovations to educational buildings, EUR 400 million on hospital and health centre buildings and EUR 390 million on institutional buildings. Compared with the previous year, the value of renovations of service buildings grew by 15 per cent.

In 2019, industrial and warehouse buildings were renovated for EUR 1.4 billion, office buildings for EUR 1.3 billion and commercial buildings for EUR 710 million. The renovation costs of industrial and warehouse buildings grew by 8.4 per cent, the renovation costs of office buildings grew by 12.1 per cent and those of commercial buildings by 9.4 per cent from 2018.

The value of service building renovations was last studied with a sample survey concerning the renovations in 2016. The renovation costs for 2017 and 2018 have been estimated using renovation and expansion permits granted for service buildings. For commercial and office buildings, the realised costs were surveyed with an inquiry in 2017 and the years 2018 to 2019 were estimated based on data on granted renovation and expansion permits. Correspondingly, the renovation costs of industrial and warehouse buildings were studied by an inquiry in 2018 and estimated based on data on granted renovation and expansion permits for 2019.
