Industrial output grew by 11.2 per cent year-on-year in July

According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 11.2 per cent higher in July 2006 than in July 2005. Industrial output has grown strongly in the early part of the year. In the January to July period, seasonally adjusted industrial output grew by 9.8 per cent from twelve months back.

Industrial output went up in all the examined industries in July. Among the main industries, the biggest increase in output, good 30 per cent, was recorded in July in energy supply. In other metal industry output went up by nearly 13 per cent from one year back. Output in the wood and paper industry went up by good 12 per cent. Manufacture of electrical and electronic products grew by good 11 per cent. Output in the chemical industry went up by 4 per cent.

The speed of growth in Finnish industrial output accelerated in the early part of the year. Industrial output now grows faster in Finland than in the EU countries on the average.

Strong growth in output continued in the metal industry. In 2004, the metal industry accounted for 45 per cent of the total value added of Finnish industry. Growth of output continued in the chemical industry, which generated 12 per cent of the total value added. In the wood and paper industry, output turned upwards. The share of the wood and paper industry of the total value added was 15 per cent.

The share of the electronics industry of the total value added was 21 per cent in 2004. Output in the manufacture of electrical and electronic products swung towards growth after mid-2005. In other metal industry, which accounted for 24 per cent of the total value added, output continued to grow steadily in early 2006.
