According to Statistics Finland's employment statistics, the number of jobs in the industry of employment activities grew by 16,100 between 2013 and 2016. Change in the number of jobs in 2013 to 2016 in industries that have grown most

In three years, most jobs were formed in the industry of employment activities (industry 78), where the number of jobs grew by 16,100 between 2013 and 2016. At the end of 2016, the industry employed 61,500 persons.

When comparing the growth in the number of jobs by industry, employment activities stood out clearly from others: the next most growth occurred in activities of households as employers of domestic personnel (97) and computer programming, consultancy and related activities (62), where the number of jobs had grown by 4,000 to 4,500 in three years.

One-half (52 per cent) of the growth in employment activities jobs took place in Uusimaa. The region had 8,300 more jobs in the industry than three years earlier. Nearly one-half (46 per cent) of the jobs in the industry were located in Uusimaa in 2016.

Employment activities was the 12th largest industry in 2016 measured by the number of jobs. In three years, it overtook building construction (56,000 jobs in 2016) and growing of crops and farming of animals (54,200). According to the employment statistics for 2016, the number of jobs was highest in human health activities (175,200), education (156,400) and retail trade (143,200).

Temporary employment agency activities growing

The growth in the number of jobs in employment activities was mostly caused by the increase in its sub-category of temporary employment agency activities (industry 782), where 12,600 more jobs were formed in three years. The number of jobs also went up in the industry of other human resources provision (industry 783), where the number of jobs had risen by 217 per cent from 2013, which corresponds to around 3,900 jobs.

The industry group of employment activities includes both employment agents and those doing temporary agency work. One job is here considered to correspond to one employed person: for example, if a person worked at an establishment of a restaurant having hired temporary agency workers, but his or her pay would be paid by an enterprise hiring out labour force, this person forms one job in the industry of employment activities. So-called light entrepreneurs that use invoicing services to bill their work are also wage and salary earners working in employment activities in the statistics.

Human health activities, education and retail trade were the biggest employers in 2016, but in these industries the number of jobs also went down most

Examined by industry, the number of jobs decreased most in three years in retail trade (47). It was still the third biggest industry in 2016 measured by the number of jobs. In addition to retail trade, there were most jobs in human health activities (86) and education (85), and in the same industries the number of jobs had also fallen most in three years.
