Energy in Finland 2022 – Information package on energy

Statistics Finland has published an information package, Energy in Finland 2022. The publication contains key statistical data on the field of energy presented as tables, graphs and infographics.

The Energy in Finland publication contains data on total energy consumption, renewable energy sources, electricity, heating, industry, transport and greenhouse gas emissions. In the publication, Finland's data are compared internationally especially with the EU’s data and energy and climate objectives.
 Electricity generation in the Nordic Countries 2021* Map. Electricity generation in Finland was 68 TWh in 2021*. The shares were: Nuclear power 33%, hydro power 23%, thermal power (fossil) 15%, thermal power (renewables) 17%, wind and solar power 12%. Electricity generation in Sweden was 165 TWh. The shares were: Hydro power 42%, nuclear power 31%, wind and solar power 17%, thermal power (renewables) 8%, thermal power (fossil) 2%. Electricity generation in Norway was 157 TWh. The shares were: Hydro power 91%, wind and solar power 7%, thermal power (fossil) 1%. Electricity generation in Denmark was 32 TWh. The shares were: Wind and solar power 54%, thermal power (fossil) 26%, thermal power (renewables) 20%. Electricity generation in Iceland was 20 TWh. The shares were: Hydro power 70%, thermal power (renewables) 30%. Source: Eurostat.

The publication contains plenty of infographics by topic. The infographics highlight interesting changes in different phenomena and data on the largest consumption sectors or key production modes.


Total energy consumption 2021* Pie chart. Total energy consumption in Finland was 1,357 PJ in 2021*. The top 3 of the total energy consumption were wood fuels 30%, fossil oil 19% and nuclear energy 18%.
