Statistics into use - We challenge the media and students to illustrate statistical data
In honour of Finland's centenary, Statistics Finland will arrange two competitions related to the utilisation of statistics. In the Statistics in the media competition we look for the best data utilising statistics in the media. In the competition for students at universities and universities of applied sciences we search for the best electronic implementation to illustrate statistics.
"In the centenary, we wish to raise the significance of statistics in describing Finnish society and life. By means of these competitions, we encourage to use statistics in a versatile manner and search for new innovative ways to present statistical data," says Head of Development Reija Helenius from Statistics Finland.
It is possible to take part in the Statistics in the media competition with an article, data visualisation, infographics, video or animation, for example.
Students can participate in the Illustration of statistics competition directed to students of universities and universities of applied sciences with an electronic entry, such as data visualisation, video or animation.
Entries can be based on various kinds of statistics, such as official statistics of Finland, statistical databases and international statistics. The viewpoint can be local, national or global.
Both competitions run from 6 December 2016 to 1 October 2017.
A prize of EUR 2,000 is awarded in both competitions. The winners will be published towards the end of 2017.
