Mass media statistics: The statistics have been discontinued
Date of change:Information about the discontinuation
The production of the mass media statistics ended on 31 December 2024. The decision to discontinue statistics production is connected to central government savings, as a result of which Statistics Finland's budget will contract (cf. News 14 November 2024).
Due to the decision on discontinuation, the data collection related to the development of the mass media market has ended. The mass media statistics have compiled data describing the development of the media landscape from several data sources (e.g. Kantar Media Finland, News Media Finland, Finnish Magazine Media Association, Lehtipiste, Booksellers’ Association of Finland, Finnish Publishers Association, Finnpanel Finland, FiCom, Traficom, Finnish Broadcasting Company, Radio Media, IFPI Finland, Music Finland, Finnish Film Foundation, Finnish Chamber of Films, European Audiovisual Observatory, IAB Finland, media companies). Warm thanks to the data providers for good cooperation!
Some statistical data related to media use and consumption will continue to be included in Statistics Finland's other statistics (e.g. time use, use of information and communications technology by individuals, households' consumption). Further information can be inquired from the experts of the Time Use Survey and the statistics on the use of information and communications technology by individuals.
Statistical data for 2023 were published in the last statistical release of the mass media statistics and in the updating item of the Mass media statistics’ table service on 28 November 2024.
